Day 78

Day 78

Day 78(cdt day 3): 7 miles

After waiting until about 8:30 for it to warm up in my wet sleeping bag I finally got going for the day. It was pretty awful trying to get everything packed up with it being wet. I ended up throwing all the wet stuff in a garbage bag in the bottom of my pack (which probably weighed an extra 5 pounds with everything wet) and got moving. After about 15 minutes of walking it began to rain again. I didn’t yell at the sky or pray nonstop like last night. Instead, I just I truly accepted the validity of Murphy’s law and kept moving.

I only did 7 miles to a road then walked East back to Jeff’s, my shuttle driver’s, house, who said I could stop by if I needed some help. I thought about just pushing through today and drying out my sleeping bag in the middle of the day with the desert heat, but with another storm today that wasn’t gonna happen and a wet sleeping bag is just no good.

And I’m glad I stopped. I dealt with rain all morning, but it really started to come down and even snow later in the day. I got my laundry done and dried out and caught up on some sleep from last night. It was a terrible situation but I’m glad it was at least close to the one place i could go if I needed help. Jeff dropped off a couple people today starting out their hike. That would be a rough first day.

Jeff said they haven’t had rain like this in months. And it really came down today again after I got to his house. He also paid me the compliment of saying I smelled like Lake Erie. I just hope there’s not blue green algae growing on me. I enjoyed excellent loner clothes since I had to do laundry as shown in the picture.

There’s actually a good amount of snow on the high peaks.

I forgot to mention I saw a skunk yesterday but also a lot of jackrabbits which I like.

Statistically, rain like this should not happen again for a long time but I still really want to get to lordsburg and get my trekking poles.

Song of the day: none just a man and his sad thoughts
Yesterday’s: wake me up-avicci
