Day 79

Day 79 (cdt 4): 37 miles

The cdt and I got off on the wrong foot but I got back in the swing of things today. I was hoping to consistently hit 30 mile days in these desert sections so it felt good to have a big day today. The trail was really good and easy to follow today. This will be large determining factor in how many miles I can do per day. It’s not hard hiking but it can be slow when I’m bushwhacking across the desert trying to figure out where to go while moving slowly to avoid prickly plants and cacti.

Wow I really carried way to much food for this first section. I’m about to my next resupply and I still have enough food for over 2 days. It’s a combination of me bringing more than I needed to be on the safe side starting out with desert hiking and me not wanting to eat anything because of how much water I’m drinking. I’m not sure I’ve ever been more hydrated in my life. I’m hiking in the desert heat all day and my piss had never not been clear. I need to take it back a little because it is harming my body and I’m carrying way too much weight with extra water, in addition to my extra food.

Today I pondered if there is any dumber looking animal than cattle. And I think the answer is no. Anytime I’m walking by them and they’re just staring with an expression that makes them look like they have a negative IQ I’m just dumbfounded by their dumbness.

I’ve made it this far without having to drink any questionable New Mexican water sources because I’ve cameled up at the water caches which are clean. That’s about to come to an end though as there are no more water caches. Time to really test my water filter

Smelled another skunk today. Those things need to stay away. That could quickly put me in a pit of misery for well over a week.

Last picture was supposed to be a “gate” but instead we get to maneuver our way through bent barbed wire while trying to not get caught.

Song of the day: ladies and gentlemen-saliva
