Day 80

Day 80 (cdt 5): 22 miles + 4 bonus miles
I got to the post office right when they opened this morning but both my trekking poles and water filter were not delivered because they were delayed. I just don’t know how one of the biggest logistics companies in the world can take over a week to deliver 2 things that was supposed to take 2 days. Thankfully the post office was willing to bounce them to silver city but now I won’t get them until Monday at the earliest.
So my day wasn’t off to a great start then I was taking an alternate route back to the trail out of town when an old man told me I’d be trespassing and took me “back to the trail” aka right where I was earlier in the day so I wasted over an hour of time and energy.
But after this I met some other thru hikers for the first time since my first week on the AT. It was good to finally meet some others that can relate to the trials and tribulations of these endeavors.
Going forward, it was a great day. In the beginning the trail was across giant pastures where i just set my bearing and went across the featherless land (picture 4). Then later in the day I got into an area more green than I have seen in a long time. It was nice to see some trees again. One thing I had liked about the trail so far is that there were markers or comments about where trees where cause they were so rare. This is a funny alternative from my time of drowning in trees on the AT.
I ended up calling it a day early (before sunset, that might be a first) even though I wanted to push farther. I wanted to get to bed early because it might rain overnight so I want to be get ready to hike in it if I have to instead of exhausted. If I was able to get my trekking poles today, this wouldn’t have been a problem🙃. #bringbackbezos
I drank from my first New Mexican water source today with my questionable filter. Thankfully it was pretty good water. I carried 6 liters at the start of today to avoid drinking from one a s long as possible.
Song of the day: diamonds-Rihanna
Forgot how much of a banger this was until I heard it in dollar general
