Day 81

Day 81 (cdt 6): 53 trail miles probably 45ish actually

For all the people back east and in the Midwest I wanna let you know we’ve been lied to our whole lives. We were told that the desert, and the southwest, is a a dry area without much precipitation which is seemingly not true. I have dealt with precipitation half my days on this trail. That’s probably more than the AT. I don’t know why exactly this propaganda is pushed on us but I can only assume it has something to do with the legality of water rights. I’m also hearing word now that they hire contractors to come in and paint the desert landscape to make it look arid. “I have the documents” -Alex Jones

On cue, at 3am this morning I felt some drops hitting my sleeping bag and I was not about to make the same mistake of laying there for a few minutes like a did a few days ago. I got up and moving for the day by 3:15. It alternated from light rain to snow to hail for the morning until around 8 when the snow really started to come down. I left the AT to get away from this stuff smh. This snow continued for almost 2 hours but ended and it eventually warmed up around 11. After this the weather would be fickle all day. It would drop 10 degrees then shoot back up. In the afternoon it would alternate 20 minutes of hail or snow then stop and then repeated again. I was getting annoyed of putting in my rain jacket to only take it off shortly after cause I was hot.

There was a trail closure cause of a burn area today and I think I ended up missing my turn on the alternate route cause the road I was planning on taking back to the trail turned out to not exist. I ended up taking a different road back to a main road that reconnected with the trail.

Very big day with quite a bit of road walking. There were some actual climbs today, although still nothing compared to the misery on the AT. That being said I do wish I had my trekking poles to have more leverage going uphill. They still have not been delivered to the original location. I was hopeful that there would be some outfitters in silver city that would have them but it looks like they might not carry them. (Continued in comments)
naturalhorsepower They’re also closed tomorrow so I won’t even know unless I take a rest day which I really don’t want to do. I’m going to try to go to walmart and see if they have anything. If not idk man. The stress of trying to figure out these trekking poles and taken 2.5 years off my life.
