Day 84

Day 84

You will not survive here. You are not a wolf, and this is a land of wolves now.

Day 84 (cdt 9): 15 miles

^one if my favorite quotes from one of my favorite movies. If you haven’t seen Sicario, you need to.

I got going later than I had hoped this morning and got moving around 9:30 but the water was still a little chilly on crossings. It was also about 10 degrees colder in the shaded part of the canyons where the sun had not yet hit.

It turned out to be okay leaving later cause when I got to doc Campbell’s for my resupply they werent even open yet. I hung out there for a while until they opened then took care of business. They were extremely friendly and accommodating to hikers passing through. They had WiFi but most things didn’t want to work and I wasn’t able to buy a new tripod and pack cover since I lost those somehow.

I ended up staying there way too long and didn’t leave until 1. After that it was a good day. I dropped back down to the river in a beautiful canyon. The water was higher today and I even saw some decent sized fish in the water.

I had to call it a day early again (around 6:30) cause I was at a good campsite and it looks like a pretty narrow canyon for the next few miles so I wasn’t sure if there’s be any decent camp spots before dark. I’m liking the gila but it’s really limiting my hiking time with the cold in the morning and not wanting to do river crossings at night. At least I’m catching up on some sleep now so hopefully I can rock out some big miles when I get back to the normal trail.

From doc Campbell’s to my next resupply is about 140 miles. I think this is my longest yet? And my miles are definitely lower in this gila alternate
