Day 87

Day 87 (cdt 12): 28 miles
Cowboy camped last night and the stars were incredible. I saw them quite a bit as I awoke to howling in the middle of the night several times. Another day another cold morning. I got going on the remaining miles of the alternate to reconnect with the actual trail and passed all the hotshots (forest firemen) on their way to work for the day. I got to my one water source for the day around 9 and filled up 3 liters for the day which took a while to filter and everything. I feel a little dehydrated now but not too bad. I should pass a tank really early tomorrow morning which looks like it might be my only water source for the day again.
I don’t know why, but the hiking seemed particularly hard today. It was nothing crazy but I was getting much more tired in the uphills and took longer breaks than normal. The terrain wasn’t too bad other than a few burn areas where the trail wasn’t perfect but still not bad. I don’t like how in burn areas mostly everything is gone except foe super prickly plants. They still love to cover the trail.
The sky was teasing rain all day and finally in the evening it began to let a little bit out but still not much. I feel like it still might overnight so now that I thankfully have my poles I set up my tent instead of cowboy camping. Camping in a cow pasture so had to kick some old cow pies outta the way.
In the evening I heard some coyotes or wolves howling pretty close to me, probably less than 100 years away but I couldn’t see any through the trees. I’m not great at having a conversation with myself so during these times I’ll usually yell out a song or movie scene or something like that. Today was the classic 6 foot 7 foot
