Day 91

Day 91 (cdt 16): 34 miles

I ended a little early last night and started a little late today so the sun would be up when I got to this water source in hopes that the water would be flowing (powered by a solar panel) instead of having to draw from a nasty tank. When I reached said tank, not only was the water not flowing, but the tank was completely dry. There was a small tank kinda nearby but the water was frozen and had a lot of algae growing on top. No thanks

Without this, water would be extremely scarce throughout the day. But since I was road walking asking most of the day I used my charm. In the morning a guy stopped and gave me a liter. This same guy passed me again in the evening and had bought a gallon for me while he was in town. Another guy stopped
in the middle of the day and gave me a gallon and offered to drive me into town which was exactly where I’m road walking to. It was hard to turn down but it is what it is. For walking most of the day on blacktop with the sun beating down, I never really got thirsty. Great people. I find it interesting what people carry in their cars in different parts of the country. In Vermont, it was sleeping bags and microspikes. Here, it’s water.

Allegedly it only gets down to 40 at night here and I’m gonna have to call BS on that. My water has frozen multiple times overnight and on the AT this would only happen if it was like 26 or lower.

It was really windy today, 30mph according to the weather channel but it definitely gusted much higher sometimes. Most of the day it was at my side so it was a nuisance but not terrible. In the afternoon the road turned and for a while I was going straight into it which was much more difficult. One fun part of it was watching birds today. They would be flapping their wings with all their power and just stay perfectly in place. They also got gusted sometimes and one almost dove into a barbed wire fence. I’m scarred after yesterday.

It felt good getting 34 miles in a short day. (Continued in comments)
I started late in hopes of the solar panel and had to end early cause I didn’t want to road walk the highway when it was dark. 34 miles in a little over 10 hours, much better than my 18-20 hour days on the AT to try to do the same.

Privy bivy night tonight so It’ll be warmer

Song of the day: Deja vu-Olivia rodrigo
