Day 98 (cdt 23): 6 miles
Words can’t really describe how miserable the last 2 days have been. On the surface, my legs are cut up and burn. My feet are constantly chilled cause I will be walking in snow which looks normal then collapse and beneath it is a running stream. That’s not to mention trying to cross streams and having the snow or ice break beneath me. My shoulders hurt from constantly trying to put all my weight on my trekking poles to avoid postholing. My hands are blistered up from gripping so tight.
Today it took me over 7 hours to cover 6 miles and I called it a day around 3pm cause the postholing just gets worse as the day goes on. I actually found a semi flat spot out of snow and wasn’t sure when I’d see that again so I ended the day early. I’ve got about 3 more miles until the snow should hopefully disappear. I’m going to try to get up early and do those when it’s still really cold so hopefully I posthole a little less. It was a little better early this morning but I didn’t start too early.
I thought there would be snow up here at this elevation but I did not think it would be this bad. I’ll probably have to find an alternate route to finish New Mexico cause a lot of it is at this elevation or higher.
Song of the day: you’re going down-sick puppies
