Day 114

Day 114

Day 114 (pct 4): 38 miles

I woke up at 3am on the dot with no wind and mosquitoes buzzing in my ear. Knowing I wouldn’t fall back asleep with this, I took it as a sign to get moving. I was cruising along until the sun came out then it started to warm up. It was pretty hot today. I definitely noticed it slowing me down in the middle of the day and I even took an hour lunch break which I normally don’t do. It’s only gonna get hotter so I might have to sleep less at night and take a 2-3 hour break in the heat of the day like most people. For some indication of the heat I drank over 3 gallons of water today no problem.

I was walking by a large group of cattle and in synch 10+ of them turned the same angle and ran the same direction. It was a real life “basketball in synch” satisfaction.

Today might’ve been the first time I had more than 20 miles by 12. I had 30 miles around 5:15 and was debating stopping for the day. I never want to stop that early but eagle rock was 5 miles away and I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to make it before sunset (which is something I definitely wanted to see in daylight) because I had been moving slow in the afternoon. After a few minutes of rest and getting pumped up with some pop smoke I cantered nearly 4 mph to get there well before dark. I actually probably could’ve gotten a better picture if I had waited for the sun to set a little more but I didn’t have the patience. I wanted to keep moving. After struggling through the entire afternoon, I had a new life after it cooled down a bit.

For as much time as I walked today and how relatively easy the terrain was I really should’ve had more miles but the heat killed me and I had to stop here cause I gotta pickup a package in a half mile tomorrow in Warner springs. I’m going asleep tonight to a chorus of frogs ribbiting nonstop. Also I set up my tent in sand which has some sort of glitter property so now some of my stuff has glitter on it. #guystuff
