Day 115

Day 115

Day 115 (pct 5): 23 miles

I overslept an hour but got to the post office right as it opened. I charged up on the side of a gas station for a bit and was chatted up by a good-looking biker lady. Damn I still got it

80 degrees by 10am just ain’t right. Around 11:15 I found some shade and took a 4 hour break cause it was around 90 degrees. This felt really strange cause I’m programmed to try to take full advantage of daylight. But now with this heat and more daylight I’ll need to get used to this more. I didn’t sleep much during this time and mostly spent the time swatting away bugs but it did save me from some heat exhaustion.

Even when I did get moving again it was still really hot and my shirt was just like a wet rag. When I take off my pack there’s a lot of salt residue from my Gnarley back sweat.

I had a 15 minute standoff with rattlesnake that didn’t want to move off the trail. Later in the day the trail was pretty rough, overgrown, and eroded. Got to camp around 10:30 and cowboy camped, seeing a shooting star right before going to bed

In honor of the heat and 23 miles today let’s take a moment to appreciate when the AC went out at the Spurs arena during the finals and everyone dealt with it except lebron who acted like he had a near death experience.

Song of the day: Sunday best-surfaces

About Me

I'm from rural Ohio and had never camped or backpacked until 2018. Just 3 years later I completed a Calendar Year Triple Crown as my first thru hiking experience and now have ~15,000 miles of backpacking under my trail runners.
