Day 117

Day 117 (pct 7): 25 miles

It was a late night and early morning to make it into idylwild early but the miles into town flew by pretty quick. There was a short time where the sky started to get weird and looked like it might rain but it held off. I did my resupply and ran into the crowd I saw yesterday. I got pizza with Darrel from Boise and he let me get a quick shower at his motel before I left town. I didn’t think I needed it but I probably did.

I ended up leaving town much later than expected and still full from eating a large pizza and breadsticks (I did it big and I regretted it). I was moving really slow in the beginning just trying to hold down my food and keep moving. I got to the cutoff for the peak alternate at 6 and decided to go for it. It became a race to the top before sunset. Thankfully there really wasn’t much snow left even at that elevation and I made it up there just before sunset. It was stunning. I don’t think I’ve seen a sunset like that since the Gila or Smokey mountains. For all of apple’s “amazing innovation” iPhones are still shit at capturing anything with the sun in it.

The mileage today is the hardest math I’ve done in a while cause there were a number of alternates to add up so it might be wrong
