Day 129

Day 129

Day 129 (pct 19): 28 miles

I woke up over 2 hours late today. I think my body is still out of whack and recovering from doing that all nighter. I also felt in a bit of a funk all day so hopefully I get back to normal soon so I can push some bigger miles.

I met sunrise, Viking, and queso early this morning at the water source and saw them again throughout the day. When I woke up I didn’t plan on taking an hour to filter water but that’s what happened. There was only a really slow trickle so it took a while for us all to take turns drinking an filling up and then it was like 26 miles to the next water source cause one along the way has a correlation with norovirus so I avoided that one. So with 4 days of food and 4 liters of water the pack felt pretty heavy today.

Early in the day the trail was around a construction area for biking a road so I probably heard more noise in those couple hours than I usually do in a week. It wasn’t super hot today, only low 80s I think but when there was no breeze it felt a little rough. There are few things in life more satisfying than climbing a hill to be greeted by a strong wind at the top. The lowlight of the day was that I tore my shirt giving a tree a shoulder as I walked by because naturally the human body craves contact. It’s a pretty big hole and my sewing skills leave much to be desired so it’s gonna be taped until I feel like I wanna take the time to deal with it.

Towards the end of the day I was kinda wanting to stop after like 25 miles but then I turned on the Carter IV and zoomed the last 3 miles to camp. This is the second night in a row I’m at a big campsite but all alone, kinda eerie.

The terrain was pretty easy today other than a small section of a lot of downed trees. I really should’ve covered more miles but it is what it is. Tomorrow is a new day.

About Me

I'm from rural Ohio and had never camped or backpacked until 2018. Just 3 years later I completed a Calendar Year Triple Crown as my first thru hiking experience and now have ~15,000 miles of backpacking under my trail runners.
