Day 148

Day 148

Day 148 (pct 38): 22 miles

I had a real hearty breakfast before getting the first ride out of Kennedy meadows at 10. With a late start I knew it wouldn’t be a big day but I enjoyed my time to recover a bit so all is well.

I had dry feet for all of 2 hours. The first 2 hours was good walking high in a ridge void of snow, my kinda place. But then I went around the other side of the mountain and descended into a valley and there was snow everywhere. The trail was completely covered so I was just trying to slowly glide downhill on the snow to get to lower elevation. It was slow going with a lot of postholing and wet feet. And right as I was near the bottom, probably the last 200 yards I postholed through the snow and dropped both feet in a stream. Now they went from wet to soaked and I went from irritated to pissed. But it coulda been worse. A French guy (that is quite the character) was coming behind me and fell and bloodied up his knee.

The rest of the day was pretty chill. It kept threatening rain and thundering a bit but the storm never really came. There was patches of snow off and on but not like earlier in the day. It still snowed me down a bit to check which direction to go when the trail was covered.

Later in the day I passed by a naked guy near a campfire. I kinda came up from behind his line of vision so he didn’t say anything and I was kinda surprised so I didn’t say anything. Just a pretty normal encounter ya know

The sunset was pretty incredible. I was mostly enclosed in trees but I could just tell the sky was stunning. It smells pretty bad where I’m camped, but then again that might just be my wet feet.

Album of the day: Beam Me Up Scotty-Niki Minaj
Not a bad attempt trying to reclaim the queen of rap title
