Day 156

Day 156

Day 156 (pct 46): 36 miles

When I woke up and went outside my tent there was a nice 3 by 12 inch slab of ice on my tent from snow that melted and then froze together. I let my tent dry out for a bit and got going for the day.

Nearly the whole day was hiking through a large burn area from 1 or 2 years ago. There were a number of giant trees to climb over and rather than do a big loop around I’d usually climb up and then jump like 8 feet down hoping my knees wouldn’t give out. There were a few questionable jumps on some slopes but I live to tell the tale.

I ran into a few people doing trail maintenance today. Thank you to all who keep these trails in good condition.

For a lot of the day I was climbing over burnt trees so a lot of my body got covered in ash and I looked like I was a coal miner. It also got my feet pretty dirty after they’d been nice and clean with new shoes and new socks.

Excluding this burn area today I’m liking Northern California. There’s a lot of green and so many trees. This is pretty much how I pictured Oregon.

I really didn’t check my phone for the distance very much today and those tend to be the best days for both mileage and happiness.

It was much warmer today and felt better. It also was the first day in a while without high winds which was a nice change.

I saw my first snake in Northern California today🙃. I also might have had my first bear encounter. I didn’t see it but as I was walking along the trail I heard something large running away. It might’ve just been a big deer but who knows
