Day 157 (pct 47): 26 miles
The morning was a short 1,000 feet up and then 4,000 feet down. It went by pretty quick and I finally made it out of the burn area. When I got down to the road crossing I got a ride to Caribou Crossings to get my food package. I also enjoyed a good burger and a “pretty fuckin good milkshake.”
I was sitting there contemplating whether to get back on trail or spend the night there with a few other hikers. While I was contemplating, kickstart my heart came on the radio and I knew I had to stay hard and get back out there. I got a shower and headed back on trail to start the 5,000+ foot climb. It really feels weird bathing this much recently but I think it is helping my feet.
As I was getting dropped off back at the trailhead there was some edm music blaring at the campground across the street. It sounded like a good time but I need to hike miles not get drunk with Kyles.
I’m really glad Motley Crue made me get back on trail cause the hiking went by pretty easy the rest of the day. It was only like 7 miles but it was good to at least get part of the big climb done tonight.
I saw my first bear today on the big descent, pretty close to the campground. It was about 20 feet below me on the side of a switchback. We locked eyes for about 3 seconds and then after it analyzed my intimidating figure it took off down the mountain. I really don’t know how it ran down instead of just doing summersaults cause it was pretty steep. First bear of the year woohoo. Hoping to see more but get my quota filled before I head into grizzly country. I also ran by a few rattlesnakes today that started hissing from above me on the side of a mountain so I just started running. I hate snakes so much.
Song of the day: toxicity-system of a down
As I was sitting in the restaurant area at caribou crossings I noticed like 4 people were just vibing to this song. My kind of scene. I’ve been surprised with how many places in Cali have good rock music playing instead of pop
