Day 158

Day 158

Day 158 (pct 48): 30 miles

This morning started on a great note with a big spider crawling in the inside of my tent fly. I ruffled the tent so it would fall off and it decided to fall 6 inches to the right of where it was and go inside my pack so I had to fish it out. After that I finished the remaining 3,000 feet left of climbing.

The day was pretty uneventful for a while. I got off trail for a while and had to wander through the forest for a bit to get back on but it wasn’t too bad. I’m on a pretty dry stretch of trail. I realized this a few miles after the last water source. I got my last water about 18 miles ago and I think it’s like 4 more miles to get water in the morning. There were a couple options but they were .3 miles off trail and I don’t like doing any more than I have to. Luckily it was only warm, not hot, so I feel a little thirsty but not too bad.

Towards the end of the day I was feeling a little tired and thought I might call it a day early. Then I started thinking about my training last year and how bad it was at times. This gave me a sustained burst of energy I haven’t had in a while and thanks to it I was able to hit the 30 mile mark today. Basically any day that I do less than 30 miles I consider a failure. My planned schedule to finish this journey with cautious estimates was based on 30 mile days on the pct and cdt. After the Sierra and foot problems slowed me down I’m around 27 mpd so I gotta get that back up or I might run into rough weather trying to finish the CYTC.

I passed the halfway marker on the pct that actually isn’t the halfway point but semantics. I really don’t think big picture too much cause it’s intimidating but I am roughly halfway done with the whole journey, maybe a little more maybe a little less. Distance is just number

Song of the day: backseat summer
Not many things can make me run uphill but this does it
