Day 161

Day 161 (pct 51): 34 miles

It was a cow filled morning. I hadn’t seen this many since the CDT. The highlight was probably 2 that would keep running down the trail for a quarter of a mile until I got closer again. Then eventually they got off trail and one turned its head back as it was facing away and just started shitting while looking at me with its ass pointing at me from 6 feet away. My appetite went away

Then it was pretty easy hiking down to Burney Guest Ranch which used to be a hostel but I guess it was sold recently. It’s not open anymore but I guess the new owner will let you pick up a package if you previously sent it there like I did. I went to go get my package from the new owner, Bob. Bob wasn’t a big talker but was a little interesting. After talking to him for about 5 sentences, he took off in his truck and let me alone at his place. A few minutes later, somebody else showed up and asked if I was Bob. I said no, but in hindsight I definitely should’ve said yes and acted like I owned the place. Before he left I asked Bob if there was faucet where I could fill up on water. I did so and it tasted like battery acid.

Since it was hot and there wouldn’t be water for a while I hitched into Burney quick to get some water and 4 double cheeseburgers and 2 large fries. I told myself I probably should cause I wasn’t sure if the food package I got would last 3 days. I think that was a lie. I got a hitch from a cop again, but this time I had to sit in the back. I had a slight delay trying to close the door with no door handles or anything on the inside.

I got back on trail and got to Burney falls state park where I took a little detour to see the falls. They were cool from afar but I wanted to keep moving and didn’t want to take the time to go to the base of the falls.

The last picture is Marty. I stepped really close to Marty and didn’t really notice until I was basically past him and he was moving away. Not venomous but a scary looking snake

As I’m typing this I got a bloody nose right before bed🙃
