Day 170

Day 170 (pct 60): 33 miles

Last night was fun. I was cowboy camping and woke up a few times to deer sniffing in our camp. One time one was coming really close to my food bag so I sat up and made a noise so it’d go away. It took off running and headed straight for where Hammer was cowboy camping. I thought it might step on or over him and just started dying laughing. I asked him about it this morning and he said it was basically right over him.

It was pretty good hiking today. The temperature was a little cooler and actually comfortable when not in the sun. I saw a group of about 15 cows with bells on ringing away.

I finally left California. As I was approaching the sun I just started smiling and felt blissful. I haven’t really felt like that since the Sierra. Even though it’s just a man made boundary and doesn’t really change anything, it still felt really good. On to the Oregon trail, hope I don’t get cholera

Late in the day it looked like it might storm a little but it held off. We finished today around 8pm and it felt a little odd to be done this early. Lately we’ve been hiking later for the most part cause of the heat and wanting to maintain steady miles. Maybe with getting to bed at a decent time we can actually wake up when planned tomorrow. Maybe not
