Day 208

Day 208

Day 208 (cdt 35): 34 miles

It was a double pass day. So that means there was a lot of climbing but also a lot of beauty being at high elevation on 2 separate ridges. In the morning I met a group of people from Boston that assured me I’ll be getting back on the AT at the perfect time. I hope that holds true.

This morning was weird. I think I was actually moving faster on the steep climbs than the flat ground beforehand. There was a lot of overgrowth which was slowing me down a little and on the uphill not as much foliage can grow over the trail.

When I got to the second pass of the day I sat there for a good 10 minutes trying to decide if I would take the Dawson pass alternate which is scenic but would add miles and another pass so more climbing for the day. Unfortunately with the timing and miles I had to do, I just stuck with the CDT and rode it down into the valley. The nice thing about the CDT is having options like this in the first place.

I lost bottle cap in a steam today. This happened 30 seconds after I dropped my bottle in the steam but recovered it as it started flowing away. The bottle cap was faster and never stood a chance. Luckily I forgot to throw away my extra one since I always keep my Sawyer water filter on one bottle.

I ran into an older gentleman today that said he was a NOBO on the cdt but had no idea that he was in Glacier or how much longer he had until the finish. He also asked where “that one really pretty spot” was in glacier. Maybe I’m uninformed but I don’t know about a singular iconic spot.

The privy this morning was in the top 2 of worst smells of the year. The only other competitor was the privy at the Mike cabin in Washington.

Song of the day: all I know so far-pink
