Day 212

Day 212

Day 212 (cdt 39): 25 miles

I naively slept in hoping that my stuff would be drier if I laid there longer and let the sun come out. That hope was futile. Everything was still smoking wet in the morning and I was moving really slow cause I was grimacing with every step as I was weaving through overgrowth on the trail that was full of cold water. After a few minutes my shoes had puddles in them again and my shorts looked like they just came out of the washer. Finally after I got back to the official CDT the trail was much better. It was the first time in a while I felt like I was walking on actual trail again without having to worry about constant overgrowth or trees.

I took a long break there and dried out my stuff a bit albeit my shoes and socks remained wet all day from those few miles in the Dewey morning. The plantar warts are back a bit and now I have some on my other foot.

I have a question for all the horse girls out there. Do horses have a social response to shitting like we do to yawning? I just don’t understand how there can be 30 yards of continuous horse shit on the trail. It has to be a team effort.

I knew it wasn’t going to be a big day since I didn’t get moving until after 9 and my first few miles were at a snail pace. So 25 miles by dark is not great but I’ll live with it. I finally started to move at a normal speed again going along the Chinese Wall, a cool phenomenon. Toward the end of the day I actually saw a semblance of a sunset. This might be the first one I’ve had in Montana cause I’m usually in a forest. #Bigsky

As I’m typing this I just heard an animal ruffling around in brush nearby. It better just be a deer and better just fuck off cause I don’t wanna deal with it

About Me

I'm from rural Ohio and had never camped or backpacked until 2018. Just 3 years later I completed a Calendar Year Triple Crown as my first thru hiking experience and now have ~15,000 miles of backpacking under my trail runners.
