Day 217

Day 217

Day 217 (cdt 44): 38 miles

It was another day with quite a bit of dirt road walking. Some people aren’t really a fan of that but I love it. It means I know it won’t ever be too steep or serious climbs, the trail will nearly always be void of fallen trees, and a lot of times you have more constant open views. With this pretty easy terrain I was flying most of the day compared to my normal speed. Having fresh food and being blessed with good weather again might’ve also helped.

I think I found the funny bone in my leg today. I accidentally bumped one of my trekking poles on the outside of my knee and it suddenly went numb. It was a pretty cool feeling but don’t try it at home kids.

I was debating calling it a day several miles before I actually did but thankfully there weren’t really any good camp spots so I just kept pushing on until I finally found a good one although it turned out to be a little skinnier than I’d prefer. To all the other hikers out there, does everyone feel like a total dumbass when trying to do a bear hang? I swear the rope never does what I want it to do and manages to get caught on every pinecone or piece of wood on the ground. I commonly find myself getting mad at inanimate objects.

I was in the forest at the end of the day so I didn’t have a good view but the sky looked amazing through the trees. It was at least 7 different shades from pink to orange and looked incredible from just the little bit I could see.

Ever since that storm the weather has been much better. The nights are a little cooler but it’s in the 70s during the day and windy so I don’t really feel hot which is unusual after dealing with warm temperatures so much this summer.

Tonight I awoke to the sound of a large animal running away. I was still half asleep so I couldn’t really tell what it was but that’ll keep ya up for a bit.
