Day 271

Day 271 (AT 75): 22 miles

I was still behind in sleep from my travel day so I figured I might oversleep a little bit, however, I ended up oversleeping by 4 hours and didn’t get walking until around 10. And it wasn’t even great extra sleep cause there were some really annoying birds screeching all morning and Alvin and his damn chipmunk gang were out again causing ruckus.

I wasn’t moving fast most of the day but it was kinda nice to be back in the green tunnel again. I definitely don’t have to worry about getting sunburnt anymore. And thankfully there’s not too many bugs out (although I did swallow a lot of gnats today) which I imagine is one of the worst parts of the AT normally with all this water around. I did see a snake today though. He should go join his friends underground.

Even though the terrain is pretty flat in the hundred mile wilderness I just wasn’t moving too fast cause the whole trail is just tree roots and big rocks. I’m glad it wasn’t raining or it would be even slower going cause of how slippery it would be. I don’t expect this to change anytime soon.

It is nice to never have to think about water anymore. On the western trails, barring a few areas, that was always in the back of my mind. But here, whenever I feel thirsty I can pretty much get water within 30 minutes.

My wrist was hurting a bit today, not sure if it’s messed up from some climbing yesterday or what. I’d rather have my wrist hurt than my foot (which was a little bit yesterday).

Song of the day: born slippy-underworld
If I ever need to torture anyone I’ll just put them in a room with this blaring on repeat
