Day 297

Day 297

Day 297 (AZT 2): 41 miles

I’m glad I didn’t cowboy camp last night. When I woke up my tent was drenched in dew. I guess you could call it mountain dew. So not sure I’ll be cowboy camping much until I get more south and maybe it’ll be drier.

I started off the day with taking a detour cause of a fire closure. It ended up adding a mile or 2 but was easy hiking. I really like having easy terrain again where I can easily brush my teeth while walking and not be tripping every step while doing so. A while back I did the mental math of how many miles I’ve walked this year while brushing my teeth and I think it came out to like 60.

I didn’t pass any water all morning and when I got to a road crossing near Jacob Lake where there’s sometimes a cache it was empty. I assume since I started pretty late, nearly all of the water caches that people depend on for long stretches out here will be empty. Just raising the difficulty level a bit. Thankfully there were some hunters nearby so I went over and they gave me plenty of water and some eggs and sausage from breakfast. They were amazed that I was hiking from Utah to Mexico. Ha they don’t have a clue

At that trailhead, and one later in the day both put toilets were locked. I wasn’t happy. I wanna meet the guy that closed them down and have a little chat. No reason to toilets should be locked. And if somebody wants to tell me a reason why they should be out of season I don’t wanna hear it, I just wanna poop on a throne.

Went through a pretty bad burn area today. The one cool part of it was that I saw 3 condors perched up on the tops of trees before they took off in flight. Quite a fine sight and delight. Damn big birds

Damn it was an easy day of hiking. I think there was like 5,000 feet of elevation gain but it was so gradual I hardly ever noticed. Even though the terrain is pretty easy my pack is still heavy. My back was tight and hurting a lot of the day. Gotta eat some more food

Saw a little bit of snow today. Got off trail and ravaged by some barbed plants

Song of the day: party hard-Andrew WK
