Day 300

Day 300

Day 300 (AZT 5): 46 miles

The day started off with me getting to a lookout tour about 30 minutes later then I had hoped. Rather than seeing a fluorescent pink sky as the sun was rising I got the sun that was high enough to be blinding in photos. Still pretty neat tho

Shorty after I rolled up to my only water source for the day. It wasn’t too bad, fairly clear, with floaters, and only a little bit of algae. I filled up 3 liters for the rest of the day (33 mile stretch). It’s much nicer not having to drink or carry as much since it doesn’t really get hot during the day. I also really came to appreciate my new Sawyer. It’s just so quick.

There was a decent amount of dirt road walking today and I’d see hunting camps off the road with coolers just knowing it’s full of beer, pop, and good food. Tempting.

The terrain really opened up today to more of an open desert. I wasn’t surrounded by trees all the time and could see far. Later in the day I had a constant view of humphreys peak off in the distance. The ironic part of the desert being more open, just huge flat areas with no trees, is it’s tough finding a camping spot. It’s hard to find somewhere no covered in pointy plants or rocks. Right now I’m camping to the side of a sort of dirt road intersection with a gate nearby. Shortly before I set up camp here I came across a few longhorns and one started whipping its tail around which I didn’t like too much so I kept trucking by. Right now as I’m trying to go to sleep there’s some cow nearby that won’t shut the hell up and keeps mooing every 45 seconds.

I also saw a herd of horses today. Not sure if they were truly wild or some sort of free range owned but they were cool. One in the group kept squaring up to me and I thought we might have to have a horsepower off to see who the real deal was.

After days like today I just wanna inject some lubricant into my hips. I have a feeling they won’t want to work in the morning. The first half mile or so where my legs don’t want to work at all is always fun. It’s like learning to walk again.

Also day 300 shoutout to chief keef. bang bang

Song of the day: mood ring-lorde
