Florida Man

Rest Week

Florida Man

Since finishing the AZT I’ve been spending time with family on a vacation in Florida. It was my first time seeing them since January. Knowing this was a possibility on the calendar was a big part of my motivation to keep trucking while on the Arizona trail and I wasn’t feeling great. Florida was a good relaxing time to focus on some foot recovery. I did as little walking and physical exertion as possible, only making necessary excursions to the cooler when I needed another natty. My brother turned 18. I saw a lot of shirts and flags rooting for me. And I think I had 5-6 platefuls of food on thanksgiving day. It was a good trip overall.

I’m back in Ohio now it’s bit different than Arizona or Florida. That first breath of winter fresh air outside the airport was a bit of a shock but it’s good to be back, just wish it was a little warmer. I’ll watch the buckeyes dominate today and then start the buckeye trail tomorrow. I think I’ll need to average 40 miles a day for the next 47 days to make the 10,000 miles in time. How hard could it be?

About Me

I'm from rural Ohio and had never camped or backpacked until 2018. Just 3 years later I completed a Calendar Year Triple Crown as my first thru hiking experience and now have ~15,000 miles of backpacking under my trail runners.
