The Gameplan

I’m not fuckin leavin!!!

Ya know, the two most dangerous/exciting/scary/fun/awesome words in the English language are “what if.” Back in the desert section of the PCT I started to wonder “what if I finished in October and still felt good and wanted to keep going? What if I could set an even higher goal? Hell, what if I went for 10,000 miles in a year?”

When I started to conceive that idea, my mind began to race with all the different possibilities of trails I could use to get there. I decided on 2 to extend the trip. First I will be thru hiking the Arizona Trail (roughly 800 miles). I’m hoping to have that finished in about 26 days which would allow me to be with my family for thanksgiving. I’m hoping I can make that work but it’s gonna be tight.

Then after that I will do the Buckeye Trail (roughly 1,500) miles. But this one’s gonna be a little different. With the short time I have left and the big miles I need to cover I’m going to try to do the BT supported (which means I can have as much help as possible-having people meet me with food/gear to save weight so I can move faster). While doing that, I’ll also hope to set the FKT (aka fastest known time aka speed record) for the buckeye trail. I’m still trying to round up a team of friends that will be able to help be my support crew for that so if you’re in Ohio and think you might be able to help out even a day, reach out. The more unemployed you are the better. I found out during this I need more unemployed friends.

I started week 0 on the AT on January 3rd, but then I went back to miserably watch OSU get slaughtered in the natty so my end date for the 10k in a year will be January 13th and I’ll subtract the 160 miles I did before that. If that doesn’t make sense, forget about it.

Then to get to 10k I’ll probably have to repeat 400ish miles on the buckeye trail. I thought about adding another little trail but don’t see the point in wasting travel time and cost when I’ll be on a super tight timeframe.

That’s my plan. The show goes on!!!

About Me

I'm from rural Ohio and had never camped or backpacked until 2018. Just 3 years later I completed a Calendar Year Triple Crown as my first thru hiking experience and now have ~15,000 miles of backpacking under my trail runners.
