Day 10 (BMT): 23 miles
I didn’t realize it until after I journaled but I camped right at mile 200 last night. I got a late start to the morning and didn’t start hiking until around 9. The vibes were off today. I was t reply feeling it. My shoulders were hurting even though my pack isn’t very heavy. My neck is pealing and hurts like a mf from getting sunburnt. And I just struggled to move consistently throughout the day.
It was a bit of a chilly morning. Initially I was climbing uphill hard, so I took off my jacket and rain pants cause I got hot. Shortly after, I turned a corner and was assaulted by strong winds the next few hours. I was too stubborn to put my extra clothes back on, but it was alright. It felt good to not be hot.
I was hoping to do a 30 mile day but since I overslept I knew that probably wouldn’t happen. As the day went on and I still wasn’t feeling great, I wasn’t even sure if I’d hit 20.
I did pass the northern terminus for the Pinhoti Trail in the afternoon. I’ll be seeing that again soon. After I finish the BMT, I’ll head back there and start that trail and take it south to near Birmingham.
I had a pretty upsetting ford. The water was ice cold and the bottom was muddy and deceptively deep. The water ended up being pretty high and getting my shorts wet. Then, on the other side of the stream. There were big downed trees blocking the way immediately. So i had to crawl under one still barefoot, and then maneuver my way through another. It want a great time.
Today just wasn’t a great day and really didn’t have one decent view. Regardless, I’m 23 miles closer to the southern terminus.
