Day 11

Day 11 (BMT): 25 miles

It was another day of not feeling great. It was cloudy in the morning and a little rain fell but then the skies cleared and it got warm and sunny. A little too warm and sunny. I think the skin on my neck will soon be down to the bone with as raw as it is and as much skin as is gone.

For a lot of the day I was walking in a mountain community so I was basically just hiking through peoples’ backyards. It was a little strange but they must’ve been cool.

I made it down to highway 76 to head into Blue Ridge and was getting angry. It was a super busy highway but nobody was stopping. I was exhausted and just cooking in the sun while standing there with my thumb out. I could feel my skin cells burning away by the second. It took about a half hour before someone finally stopped. Getting a ride into town shouldn’t be my most exhausting part of the day but it seems to be lately.

I was definitely a little dehydrated. After I resupplied in blue ridge, I went to Pizza Hut. After I sucked down 3 drinks in roughly the first 10 minutes the server said “you must be hiking if you’re this thirsty.” That was nice of him to attribute my likelihood of hiking to my thirst and not my look or smell.

Also while in Pizza Hut a small child was singing along to roar by Katy Perry and I about exploded from cuteness overload.

It was much better hiking after I left town. I was full and it was a little cooler. It was more of the same though. Hiking up to go back down with no views to be seen. Views aren’t everything, but they certainly help.

Song of the day: sorry 4 the wait-lil wayne
