Day 12

Day 12

Day 12 (BMT): 34 miles

I didn’t get a great night of sleep because some animal was repeatedly making a noise all night. It sounded like someone that had a slobbery mouth trying to blow into a kazoo or harmonica. Idk what it was.

It was my first really bad morning dealing with spider webs. Im actually surprised it hasn’t been worse so far, but I had to bear the responsibility of cobweb cowboy today and took a lot to the face.

In the morning I got to a fire tower that had the stairs removed which seems rather counterproductive.

I passed a really cute hiker box in front of somebody’s house. If only I didn’t pack out too much food.

I’m gonna stick the Blue Ridge post office with an official Not Chill Certificate. The first PO I’ve ever had that wouldn’t bounce a box for a hiker. Not chill

I think I pulled the first tick out of my hair today and had a heart attack while doing so. I’ve never really dealt with a tick before so it’s a pretty big fear. I have this feeling that I’ll get one on me, not feel it, immediately get Lyme disease, and then have half my face frozen for the rest of mt life.

As far as unpleasant beings go, I also had a run in with a pretty sizable snake. He was chilling for a while before I started tossing some twigs his way and he slithered away back to his evil lair.

I think the skin on my neck might be down for the count. It is so raw it’s unbelievable. But it also hurts too much to put more sunscreen on. I’m in a bit of a pickle but just hoping soon that all of the weak skin peals off and the Teflon-grade skin comes out soon.

I passed a hiker today that looked exactly like Josh Peck. I’m actually not convinced that it wasn’t him but idk

I’ll be finishing up the BMT tomorrow😁

Song of the day: going to California-led zeppelin

About Me

I'm from rural Ohio and had never camped or backpacked until 2018. Just 3 years later I completed a Calendar Year Triple Crown as my first thru hiking experience and now have ~15,000 miles of backpacking under my trail runners.
