Day 14

Day 14 (PT 2): 36 miles

So early on in this hike I got sunburnt on my left shoulder/neck pretty bad. I figured it would get a little worse before it got better, the skin would peal off, and I’d be good to go. Well it’s just kept getting worse and worse. I really haven’t had much protection from the sun with many trees still dead from winter. By the time I started putting on sunscreen it was too little too late, and then it reached a point where it hurt too bad and was basically an open wound so I didn’t put sunscreen on anymore.

It’s already not great. The skin on my shoulder is kinda looking like da alligator man. But I don’t want it to get worse so I made my own route and took a shortcut road walk (this section of trail is a big road walk) to get into Dalton sooner than planned. I got a motel and will be a hermit for a couple days to avoid the sun like Howie in The Benchwarmers. Sun bad equals you coocoo

I ended up using my pack towel from cooking to lay over the burn today cause I don’t have a bandana. It wasn’t great but worked a bit.

I made it into Dalton tonight and hope it heals up fast.

Man these trails are kinda BS. On my alternate road walk, I had views that were 10000x better than anything I’ve seen on the BMT or PT so far. There were stunning views of the massive green mountains. Some of the sights were unbelievable, and it was a good reminder that this area is beautiful. I just don’t really get to see it on the trails so far.
