Day 8

Day 8 (BMT): 26 miles
It was a good long night. I knew I was going to start because it was going to be raining through the night me into the morning. I enjoyed 12 hours of sleep and some Netflix I downloaded before getting moving around 10:30. My long slumber was interrupted by some super strong winds during the night. I don’t know how fast they were but I was just laying there hoping no trees would fall over.
The rain ended up hanging around longer than I expected. I had my tent hanging on the outside of my pack and no pack cover on since I thought the rain wouldn’t last. Things got progressively more wet until the skies cleared around 5 and I had a few hours of nice weather.
It’s funny how quickly my mood can flip 180 degrees. I was in a pretty out mood most of the day until shortly after the skies cleared I came to a small opening in the trees where I could see the Hiwassee River flowing from above while listening to a Lil Wayne verse. I was instantly ecstatic and was gliding the rest of the day.
The most scenic part of the day was actually when I was walking on a road near the end of the day during sunset. It ran right on the banks of the Hiwassee River, and it was beautiful at sunset. Walking along the river and seeing how many different things it affects and the ecosystem it form was amazing.
I checked 2 more animals off my list today. I saw an armadillo, which I didn’t even know were in North Carolina. I only thought of them as desert creatures from movies and whatnot. Then, about 30 minutes after I saw that, I saw a group of about 8 wild boar. I first heard the oinking then saw them running through the trees. I’ve seen just about every animal I can think of in America.
Hiked on the John Muir Trail today for a bit. I don’t see what all the hype is about.
I ended up at a campsite right on the banks of the river and wow, what a sound to fall asleep too.
Song of the day: we set the trends-Jim Jones and lil Wayne (song isn’t very good but Wayne’s verse is excellent)
