Day 41 (ODT 9)

Day 41 (ODT 9): 27 miles

It was a late morning. I didn’t get up until after 10 and it was a slow moving morning after that. I made my way up to Abert Rim which was a cool section of trail. It was about 2,500 feet above the valley floor below. Once I made it to the high point of the rim I could see Abert Lake which is a super saline lake which was odd. It didn’t really even look like a lake, but just a collection of salt. I hardly any water, just salt. I think I enjoyed Diablo Rim better than Abert, but that may just because it had 80mph and I was panicking to find a campsite at sunset so it was more adventurous. Abert was cool though.

After that it was dirt road walking the rest of the day. It was easy, and a pretty uneventful day overall.

Saw some more pronghorn. I’m feeling a little insecure. I’m at the top of the food chain yet when these things see me, they’re only running away at like 20 mph instead of 60. I want them to show me a little more damn respect and flee in terror when they see me.

I nearly stepped on a dawn today. I was hiking along in a cross country section and about 3 feet ahead of me, one got up and started running away. It blended in so well I might’ve accidentally stepped in it.

I was getting a little nervous around sunset. Idk if Oregon gets tornados at all, but it looked like a cloud was swirling down toward the ground like one. I took a picture, but it didn’t turn out great. It looked more intimidating irl.

Song of the day: smells like teen spirit-nirvana
