Day 45 (ODT 13)

Day 45 (ODT 13): 31 miles

It was tough getting out of bed this morning, but the sun cooking me in my tent helped push me along. The 10 miles to the water went by pretty quick but I did take a wrong turn on a road and not realize it for a while. I’ll probably did an extra 1.5 miles before bushwhacking my way to connect with the right road.

At the water source I met a thru hiker from Germany. We talked for a while enjoying the rare water and a single tree in this 50ish mile stretch without trees.

In the afternoon, I made my own little cross country route in one part at ended up finding a little bridge over a wash. To the normal person, this might seem like nothing, but to me it was shelter. I was getting fried in the sun, even with my umbrella. This 3 foot tall bridge gave me some shade. I crawled under and chilled out for 45 minutes.

The “primitive road” at the end of the day was just littered with animal shit. It was like playing hopscotch to avoid it. On the bright side, trees did reappear at the end of the day.

While I was setting up camp there were mosquitoes around and I still can’t close my tent door cause the zipper is broken. Should be interesting

These last 2 days have been really tiring for as flat as they have been. Just being hot and exposed constantly without water has drained me.

Song of the day: wouldn’t it be nice-the beach boys

About Me

I'm from rural Ohio and had never camped or backpacked until 2018. Just 3 years later I completed a Calendar Year Triple Crown as my first thru hiking experience and now have ~15,000 miles of backpacking under my trail runners.
