Day 53 (ODT 21)

Day 53 (ODT 21): 22 miles

Like after any rest day, it was tough to leave. Again, I pushed the checkout to the brink and didn’t get started hiking until after 11. I left the motel with a water bottle full of Dr Pepper and 2 drumstick ice cream cones in hand.

I began walking towards the West Little Owyhee River, over one canyon and into another. The area became very green as I got closer to the river, and I began to notice the bugs. There were giant crickets hopping around all day, oftentimes under the crunch of my shoes. They were everywhere. I felt like it was a sign I needed to repent after watching A Serbian Film yesterday.

The gnats and no-see-ums also became annoying. I have been without bugs for a while so I kinda forgot about them. My tent door is still unable to close so this is not ideal.
