Day 63 (ODT 30)

Day 63 (ODT 30)

Day 62 (ODT 30): 10 miles

This was quite the epic way to end a trail. I finished at the eastern terminus at the Owyhee Reservoir. It was astonishingly beautiful, and of course I went for a celebratory swim (also to clean off a lot of the cow shit on my legs)

I was ready for this damn trail to be over. It was beautiful at times, but it really was an ass kicker. It really redeemed itself with the last section around Owyhee, and with the epic finish location. Katahdin is a pretty amazing spot to end a thru hike, but the Owyhee Reservoir is pretty fucking sweet too.

It rained a little this morning, making the count 13 out of 30 days I got rained on. That’s over 40% of the days which I was not expecting on a desert trail. From everyone I talked to in Oregon, this has been a pretty historic wet spring which is good for the state, but wasn’t exactly to my liking.

I was aiming to do the trail in 35 days but it ended up being a little shorter due to a couple alternates I took because of snow/inclement weather. I had to go around Steens Mountian cause it stormed and snowed the 3 days I was around it. And I went around part of Owyhee Canyon because of water levels in the slot canyon. If it wasn’t for those alternates, I probably would’ve been right around 35 days.
