Day 108 (PNT 13): 17 miles
I was exhausted from yesterday and ended up oversleeping an hour which is pretty normal, but extra detrimental now because it’s so damn hot. I moved slow all morning but at least there was water along the way. I got to the start of the infamous Lion’s head buschwhack around noon. After having a near death experience a few days ago, I opted to do the low route rather than the scenic high route given it’s difficulty and the fact that I was alone. I’ll be back to do it properly someday.
The bushwhack was not what I would call fun, but it it was not as nearly as bad as it was hyped up to be. I did the 6.6 miles in a little under 6 hours without really pushing too hard. There were game trails for a decent amount of it. I would just frequently lose them and then usually choose the path of most resistance. I’m glad it’s done, but it wasn’t bad. There were multiple sections on the Bigfoot Trail that were allegedly trail and were worse than this bushwhack.
The coolest part of the buschwhack was meeting 2 other hikers, Buck 30 and Steady that I have heard about before and have hiked a pretty good number of trails in their time. Chatted with them for a while before having to get back to the whacking.
Hopefully I’ll be able to get back to crushing some decent miles soon, but damn it’s hot.
At camp now and I see a gang of about 6 squirrels running in the general direction of where I hung my food bag. I don’t like this.
Song of the day: killing in the name-rage against the machine
