Day 124 (PNT 29)

Day 124 (PNT 29): 19 miles

The day of reckoning finally came. After the delivery of my shorts was delayed I decided I’d wait to see if they came in the delivery today but then was going to leave because I couldn’t stay any longer. I, and the 2 other hikers I have been seeing off and on, Matt and Tweedy, had a ride set up at 11 to skip a road walk. I was waiting in the lobby for deliveries that were supposed to come at 10:30. After 10:45, another hiker told me he saw a UPS truck drive by, so I chased it down to the post office and got my package. FINALLY

We got back to trail and started a steady long and hot climb. It did become cooler and more pleasant as we increased in elevation, but it was still tough. We ended up leapfrogging off and on and camping together at the end of the day.

As it was nearing camp time, the sky started to turn scary. I started to hear thunder in the dark clouds south of me and really wanted to get to camp before it started storming. It came very close and started to lightning as we were setting up our tents, but it was fine.

Also at the end of the day I was reminded of the lovely skies in the cascades. The pastel shades of blue, orange, and more were comforting.

Overall I am excited to finally be back on trail (I have never stayed that long in one place while hiking) but it wasn’t an easy first day back. Tomorrow should be better since I’m already up at high elevation. Get high stay high.

It’s been a while since my pack had been this heavy. I probably brought too much food, and I’m kinda just carrying shit I don’t really need on this trail for extra precautions. I’m guessing it’s around 40 pounds right now but Matt thought 50. Idk but it’s fuckin heavy and I had a headache most of the day from the strain on my neck and upper back. Gotta eat
