Day 125 (PNT 30)

Day 125 (PNT 30): 24 miles

It was a late start to the day cause it was foggy so I used that as an excuse to sleep in. After my 2 hour delay, I finally started hiking around 9 after saying goodbye to Matt and Tweedy for likely the last time but who knows.

Approaching cathedral pass, the flies started to get a little wild. I only stopped a couple times but was just running flies off my legs nonstop so it wasn’t very rejuvenating.

When I finally got my first view of cathedral peak, I understood the hype. The approach was eye catching the whole time and the view from the pass was nice on both sides. I saw a good number of people camping there and heading there to camp. Cathedral pass was also allegedly the highest point on the PNT but I feel like I’ve read that at least 3 times now so guthook needs to get their shit together.

The strange and pleasant part of today was that I was comfortable temperature-wise all day. It’s really nice being up at 7,000 feet where it’s cooler. I even had to put on my jacket this morning for a little bit which I couldn’t even imagine doing a week ago with as hot as it’s been recently.

The bugs were much less of a problem on the west side since it was windier. The end of the day was a little tough. I was walking straight into the sun and it was tough to see. I really couldn’t see in front of me so I was just walking and hoping I wouldn’t step in a big pile of horse poop. But the bigger problem was my foot started to hurt. After my body was finely tuned and gliding through the first part of the trail, I knew it was gonna be a little rough after taking nearly a week off and trying to get back to high mileage right away. I ended the day early because of it and hopefully will just sleep it off. I have a pretty bad campsite but I angled it so the slope I’m sleeping in has my feet up higher than the rest of my body.
