Day 129 (PNT 34): 30 miles
The unintentional benefit of camping on a summit was it being impossible to sleep in past sunrise cause it was so bright so early. After starting hiking around 6am, it was the first time in probably a long time that I covered 20 miles by 2pm.
It is much easier when the trail is all downhill or flat, pristine, and well-manicured trail. I was pretty much in go mode all morning cause I wanted to get to Ross Lake Resort as soon as possible. But I did have to stop and use an open air pit toilet and got absolutely hounded by shit flies.
I made it to Ross Lake Resort early in the day and picked up my food box before drinking 8 dr peppers while sitting there, relieved to have a small break from walking.
The resort was a cool spot and was really hiker friendly, however I did have my reservations at first. I was pretty dehydrated and out of it when I got there so walking on floating docks that bobbed up and down and little pieces of woods connecting docks had me feeling a little precarious with my pack on. I’m just a humble man that likes to keep my feet on solid ground.
It was a really cool little floating village though. I ended up staying there over 4 hours and didn’t leave until around 7:30. I got to camp after 9 and unfortunately saw some mice running around so I did a mice hang for my food.
The fact that the Pasayten Wilderness sign was smashed by a tree was so perfect that I don’t even need to say anything. Poetry in reality
