Day 132 (PNT 37)
August 20, 2022

Day 132 (PNT 37): 27 miles + 7 yellow miles
The days started off with a soaking wet tent in a heavy fog. I went over Hannigan Pass and the rest of the day was nearly all downhill or flat. From that pass to the parking lot 5 miles away was maybe the most people I’ve seen hiking ever. It was constant people. One of those people was @jasonhardrath who I also crossed paths with last year. While I was on my mission for the CYTC, he was on his to set the FKT for summiting all 100 tallest peaks in Washington.
On a different note, not just today, but the last couple days in The North Cascades was the largest number of hot girls I’ve seen while hiking ever. Something’s in the water.
I got a very easy hitch to skip a little bit of a dangerous road walk on mount baker highway. Once I hopped back on actual trail, I was passing people left and right before I finally diverged off to Swift Creek rather than going to Lake Ann with the masses. Even while up high today, there weren’t really any views cause I was engulfed in clouds and fog.
The trail along Swift Creek was a little rough, but thankfully a trail crew must’ve gone through recently and cut thick brush. It was however a catacomb of cobwebs. It must not be used much other than by PNT hikers. I was having to dodge big webs with big spiders frequently. I may have missed a few and they landed on me which was displeasing.
Eventually I made it down to Baker Lake and camped a few miles before where I planned on stopping. I was starting to feel rough and my back was hurting again.
I hope I don’t come to regret this though. There are barking dogs around, and I just heard what sounded like a loud domestic dispute.
“I’m gonna call the cops if you don’t get the fuck away from me!” I hate to pragmatically burst her bubble, but there’s no cell service.
Post script: I did come to regret it. The dogs barked nonstop and the people stayed up until 3am. But I wasn’t gonna go over and tell them to be quiet cause when you do that you’re certifiably old and lame
