Day 134 (PNT 39)

Day 144 (PNT 39): 32 miles

I didn’t sleep well cowboy camping last night. (I think it was my first time doing it this whole year). It was pretty windy which I felt a lot. I regretted not setting up my tent, but I wasn’t gonna abandon the cowboy camp in the middle of the night.

I got up at 5:30 to pack everything up and head up 300 feet to the lookout tower for sunrise. I spent over an hour up there watching the sky come alive while talking to the people that camped in there overnight. It was a fantastic sunrise that couldn’t possibly be captured on film. Real beauty

I started hiking and was cruising along until I hit a really bad section of blowdowns and lack of trail. It might’ve been the worst part of the trail so far for 3-4 miles. It was immediately followed by a bushwack section. The bushwhack wasn’t fun, but it better than the alleged “trail” before it.

I was relieved to finally reach a gravel road and walk that for a while. But I ended up walking it too long. I missed a turn onto a different road, but ended up being able to connect it back to trail thanks to Gaia. The road I used to connect t it didn’t show up on Guthook, like a lot of things don’t, but Gaia held the answer.

In the evening, Chopsticks and I crossed paths and began hiking together. A fellow Ohio boy! We briefly met yesterday, but now talked for a few hours nonstop before parting ways at me taking an alternate. I would bet we’ll meet again.

I moved faster while talking with Chopsticks so the mileage ended up being pretty good after moving slow through several miles of and trail.
