Day 135 (PNT 40)

Day 135 (PNT 40)

Day 145 (PNT 40): 27 miles

I slept in this morning cause I knew I had a flat rail trail all the way into Seedro Wooley. I got into town around 9-9:30 and stopped by the PNTA Headquarters to say hi. Only the accountant was there which I’ll take as a sign that everyone else was out doing trail maintenance to create the most pristine trail possible.

While walking around in town, I met a guy that looked so much like Jon Hamm it was uncanny. He worked in an office right near the PNTA Headquarters and knew a lot about the trail. He said he had a shower in his office and I could use I if I wanted to. If I wasn’t meeting a friend in a few days and knew I would shower then, I probably would’ve said yes. But I declined. I would’ve felt bad for him showing up in his office with someone looking like me. “Hey Jon, good to see you this morning. So is this the new intern or who is he?”

After that I ate a light meal at McDonald’s with a breakfast sandwich, 10 piece McNugget, 6 McDoubles (2 for the road), and a large fry… plus about 7 large dr peppers. I realized in town that i didn’t really have to resupply cause I had a little bit of food left and the upcoming section is basically all road walking going by cafes and gas stations regularly so you don’t need to carry much.

I got a ride back to trail from a wonderful trail angel named Dan. I then began the 3,000 foot climb up Anderson Mountain m, and while doing so I realized I smelled a little unusual. I think I was sweating Dr Pepper out of my pores. It didn’t matter, I had cell service so I ignored the smell and ignored the climb by calling people for nearly the whole day.

After reaching the top of Anderson Mountain with some fine views, I went down and past Alger. There was no water for a long time so I filled up at a bar in town (water for clarification) and then continued on. There really wasn’t any camping possibilities in the area due to private land and road walking so I took a little shortcut and walked over interstate 5 to get back to a state forest and to a legal camping area.
