Day 98 (PNT 3): 32 miles
After ending early yesterday, I almost got 12 hours of sleep for the second night in a row and woke up feeling dangerous. I cruised up and over Brown pass which had no snow left at all. But it did have enough bugs the entire way to drive a man insane. I’m not sure if they are horsefly bites or what, but I’ve got a couple bites on my legs that are swelling up like peanut m&m’s.
After that easy 2,000 foot climb over roughly 8 miles (that same elevation gain would’ve been like 1.7 miles on the Bigfoot Trail 😂) the day was even easier. I descended down to Bowman Lake which was a massive body of picturesque blue water surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Glacier. The trail then rode the bal of the lake for over 10 miles before reaching a road back to civilization. Shortly after reaching the road I met 3 other PNT hikers and chatted all the way into Polebridge.
I did a resupply in Polebridge which was a little tough. They didn’t have Oreos or bulk candy which is usually my staple. That was my main problem with it but I made due. If I did it again, I’d probably send a box there. I also packed out 3 large slices of pizza, partially because I wanted to, but more so because there wasn’t much of there food to buy that I wanted.
In town I got 2 steak and cheese subs and 2 orders of fries, and washed it down with 4 dr peppers obviously. It might have been a little much and the couple miles I did out of town were tough.
Leaving town I had to say goodbye to the 3 hikers I met. They were really cool dudes and we got along great and I’m sure would’ve been a lot of fun, but they’re still building up their trail legs so they aren’t ready to crush big miles yet. We’re all on a different journey and if fate decides, maybe our paths will cross again. They were also really good people cause they complimented my calves and that’s the best compliment a man can give to another man.
(I’m trying to finish up the PNT early September so I can squeeze in the Colorado trail before winter hits in Colorado)
Song of the day: nothing else matters-Metallica
