A Day Before I Start 2
January 4, 2021

“I get up around 7. Get outta bed around 9.”

Day -6: 16 miles
Didn’t get up today until 9:30 and had a short day going through Duncannon and crossing the Sus(quehanna) river. Couldn’t sleep last night and couldn’t get up this morning. Hopefully by now all the toxins and sleep deprivation from New Year’s Eve and day are out of my system and I can get some normal days in. I don’t want to start out trying to set the world on fire with big mile days early on but I do want to get into good routines and do more than 16.
Passed a few porcupine hot spots today but didn’t see any unfortunately. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen one in a zoo or anywhere. What a weird creature.
Last night I was sleeping my water bottle in my sleeping bag to make sure it didn’t freeze. After a while I felt something strange and turned out it was leaking. Thankfully my body heat dried out the water by morning.
I’ve started bringing along protein powder and green vegetable drink powder for nutrients but am having a tough time trying to finesse them into a small water bottle. I might have to try something with a wider mouth like a Gatorade bottle or something.
Really didn’t eat very much today cause I wasn’t hungry at all. Hopefully my hiker hunger kicks in soon. I can only scarf down so much when I have no desire to eat.
Weather: mid 30s and mostly clear
Song of the day: Eldery woman behind the counter in a small town-Pearl Jam
