A Day Before I Start 3
January 5, 2021

I walk, therefore I am.
Day -5: 26 miles
The day started out good until I lost my hat after several miles. I went back a decent ways and looked for it but gave up after a while. Thankfully it wasn’t something more important where I would’ve absolutely had to find it. I came across a Love Pink hat with pigtails later in the day and probably would’ve went with it if it wasn’t soaking wet.
I came across my first other backpacker. A guy started SOBO just south of the Whites and is going to Georgia so I’ll probably run into him again in a few weeks.
In the middle of the day I came across Peter Mountain Shelter which was very cool and I needed to get water there. The sign said it was 300 steps away. But it was 300 literal steep rocks steps and it was a journey just to get some water.
Throughout the whole morning it was lightly hailing and then again on the evening. It wasn’t bad at all. Didn’t soak me like rain or stick to me like snow so light hail is perfectly fine with me. It was pretty foggy most of the day so the few views were mostly not there.
I now know that my gloves in my coat pockets are not doing my gut any favors in picture 2.
