A Day Before I Start 6
January 8, 2021

Day -2: 26 miles
I love sunrises cause they carry the promise of a new day. I hate sunrises cause it means you had to get up at the ass crack of dawn. The open landscapes this morning as the sun was rising were unreal. It would be hard to have a bad day after that. Camping close to a peak tonight so gonna try to catch a sunrise again tomorrow.
I ran into a couple local hikers and it was nice to talk shop for a while. They advised that I try to do Knife’s edge (a spot I would be crossing later in the day) before it gets dark. I knew that that probably wasn’t going to happen but their advice was not wrong. The name of that section of trail is pretty legitimately earned and it was icy and windy and a little more difficult cause it was dark. No close calls or anything but it was a little sketchy. Decided to set up camp a little early to avoid having to do another sketchy section when it was dark.
Today was pretty flat terrain but there would be stretches where it was icy. Pennsylvania is just a little odd cause when it’s a little icy you still can’t use microspikes to gain traction cause there’s so much exposed rock.
Also I forgot to mention yesterday I drew first blood. A thorn bush caught my hand pretty good. Nobody makes me bleed my own blood. Nobody.
