Day 12

Day 12

Day 12: 18 miles

I woke up 2 minutes before my alarm with a purpose. I started out a little slow on ice in the morning but then picked up speed and made it to laughing heart hostel by 1:30. It was a great place and I headed to a bar in town to watch the best 3 quarterbacks in the nfl and Tom Brady. Unfortunately, fortunately, this bar closed at 8 so I didn’t have to watch the chiefs crush the hopes and dreams of bills mafia. On a slightly different note, today I had pop (not in a mixed drink) for the first time since like junior high. Gotta do it for the kcals

Today was another great example of my terrible judgement of snow and ice. I swear every time I decide to try to hold out and not put on my microspikes for traction the ice continues for a long time but when I decide to finally put them on it ends within 5 minutes.

I’ve also noticed that when I am falling my mind almost thinks it isn’t real. Like as I am falling it almost feels fake and reality will come back shortly.

I’m really digging the loaner clothes at the hostel. It’s big John travolta and Samuel L Jackson in pulp fiction vibes.

Met some great people at the hostel. I won’t have a lot of these experiences like normal thru hikers so I’ve got to enjoy these when I get them.

Also a disclaimer to some worrisome people out there that if I don’t post for a few days that doesn’t mean I’m dead. I either don’t have cell service or don’t have time because I’m pushing hard like the last couple days.

Song of the day: Cruel World-Phantogram

About Me

I'm from rural Ohio and had never camped or backpacked until 2018. Just 3 years later I completed a Calendar Year Triple Crown as my first thru hiking experience and now have ~15,000 miles of backpacking under my trail runners.
