Day 21

Day 21

Day 21: 18 miles

“They” say it takes 3 weeks to form a habit right? I’m now hiking as a daily habit.

I’ve been really bad lately about getting up and around in the morning. I didn’t get moving until after 8:30 today. My motivation level is just extremely low when it’s so cold in the morning. I’m not sure how cold it was at first but when I checked the weather around noon it was 7 degrees.

The snow forecast was no joke. It finally stopped snowing after doing so for over 28 hours straight. I was walking in a foot of snow most of the day. My footprints around camp from last night were covered up this morning when I woke up. The walking wasn’t that bad though. The snow was packing pretty well instead of melting like a few days ago where I was slipping left and right. The only thing with this snow is that it’s hard to tell the depth. Sometimes I would be waking and fall like 3 feet because there was a big drop off under the snow. I felt like it was a scene where shaggy and scooby are walking and suddenly there’s no more floor and they just drop.

I cruised the second half of the day and rolled in Damascus around 5:10. I was immediately hit with a massive mf vibe check when the grocery store closed at 5. It also doesn’t open until 9am. So I will be getting a late start out of town tomorrow.

I crossed the border into Virginia today. I’m pretty glad to be out of Tennessee. It definitely gave me a good ass kicking from the weather and terrain. Although it looks like Virginia is going to match or beat its weather.

I love my new mittens. They’re so fu**in warm. And they’re extremely fashionable, like a puffy lobster

My selfie game has been wayyy too skrong lately. When the weather isn’t great and there are no views to be seen, that is what I resort to to have some documentation from the day.

Let’s play a game. Describe the last picture with one word

Song of the day: smells like teen spirit-nirvana
What did the baby from the cover of Nevermind go on to do with his life? How much residual income has he earned from that? These are the questions I need answers to.

About Me

I'm from rural Ohio and had never camped or backpacked until 2018. Just 3 years later I completed a Calendar Year Triple Crown as my first thru hiking experience and now have ~15,000 miles of backpacking under my trail runners.
