Day 22

Day 22

Day 22: 16 miles

I knew today was going to be a later start to get out of Damascus after staying at Crazy Larry’s hostel. I had to to resupply on food and mail some things at the post office. Huge thanks to Michelle in Damascus for helping me resupply, a true saint. I mailed home my stove because most days I don’t have the time and or energy to cook and so far I’ve probably only used it like 7 times. Gonna see how it goes without it for a while to cut some weight.

After I got all that taken care of I scarfed down a bunch of food so I didn’t have to carry as much and packed my stuff up to go. I felt pretty tired so I laid down for a quick 15 minute power nap. This ended up lasting for over 2 hours and I didn’t hit the trail until after noon. It wasn’t a big deal though because I knew it was going to be a shorter day.

Today was all new trail for me. I had previously hiked up to Damascus with several section hikes but now is where my experience ends. It’s a whole new world.

For it not precipitating at all today I, and my pack, got pretty wet from constantly walking though snow-heavy tree branches. I really should just put my rain cover on 24/7 no matter the situation.

It got above freezing today for the first time in a few days so that was neat.

At one point today there was a dead raccoon right in the middle of the trail. There was no blood or anything and I’ve seen too many movies so I was just waiting for it to pop up. But it did not. RIP to RJ

Song of the day: none, just a man and his thoughts
