Day 23

Day 23

Day 23: 24 miles

It was a slow moving day. For the first half of the day there were no tracks to follow and the snow was really deep in some parts. I was getting pretty frustrated postholing up to my knees and being so tired while moving so slow. There were also a few times where I fell and got a body full of snow.

Then the second half of the day was a little better. There were finally some tracks to follow so I moved a little faster. But this one goes out to the short kings out there. There was multiple times today where I thought it’d be much nicer being 5’9” instead of 6’2”. If I was shorter I would have a much easier time ducking under tree branches full of snow. Also whoever makes the tracks that I can follow with my footsteps is usually significantly shorter and I have to use very short strides.

Later in the day I rolled up on a big camp of firefighters (from Virginia Beach I think). They were extremely generous and helpful and I’m sure I could’ve had a good time staying there but I had to keep moving. Shortly after leaving there it started snowing extremely heavy which aggravated me because it wasn’t supposed to today. Thankfully it only lasted like 15 minutes.

After dark I managed to get pretty far off trail and for some reason my gps app has been inaccurate lately so it took me a while to get my head on straight and get to camp for the night.

Song of the day: Alone- Marshmello
